A few months back I met a jawan from Pakistan Army DSG
branch. Due to my interest and good know how of the military, we really hit it
off and started a very fascinating conversation about life in the military. It
was then that he told me a story of his friend, (in Pakistani military terms,
his "numberi") who got Shahdat at PAF base Kamra terrorist attack
back in 2012. Kamra, also known as Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) is about 60 kilometres northwest of Islamabad. On the
request of this Jawan I am writing the story of M. Asif here and also linking
the video that this jawan gave me. He was carrying this video with him in his
cell phone to honour his beloved friend. Mere words cannot describe the sorrow
and depth of emotions this soldier had in his eyes for his lost friend.

This brave son of Pakistan was Sepoy Muhammad Asif. This
teenager fought single handedly till his last breath and his last bullet to
defend his check post and to stop the terrorists to enter the Kamra facility.
He was the only army personnel appointed on the checkpost but was accompanied
by 3 PAF security personnel. When a car filled with explosives hit the wall of
the facility and exploded to give way for on foot terrorists to enter, the PAF
security guys panicked and fell back immediately (without putting on a fight)
to alert the base and regroup. They also took their weapons with them. M. Asif
on the other hand stayed and laid down covering fire with his Pak army standard
issue G-3 rifle. He only had 3 clips in total and he soon ran out of Ammo. The
terrorists sensing the opportunity got to him and slayed him.

Meanwhile the base was now on full alert and they were now
exchanging fire with the terrorists to stop them from getting any near to the
Aircrafts on the tarmac. Soon the Champs, the Special Services Group SSG of Pak army arrived and put
an end to this menace after an intense gun battle which lasted for almost five
hours. Even a layman can see that these Tehreek-i-Taliban
Pakistan (TTP) guys were not just some ordinary random guys but trained
soldiers with good Intelligence information about their target. We all know
which country benefited the most from our losses on this incident. The country
who doesn’t want to see us strong. Here we also have to remember that Kamra is
home to several squadrons of fighters and surveillance planes including the
famous state of the art JF-17 thunder which Pakistan is producing in
collaboration with the People’s Republic of China as a low cost multirole jet
fighter.
May Allah give Pakistan more sons like Sepoy Muhammad Asif who
prefer to lay down their own lives defending our motherland rather than to live
as a coward. Ameen.
